Copywriting Secret Used By "Boogey Man" Novelist Skyrockets The Response Of Almost Any Ad You Run
Author : Ben Settle
If you'd like to make all of your ads, sales letters and marketing pieces a lot more likely to be read and, thus, responded to, then here's a little "technique" that'll make it happen for you. Listen to this: Stephen King, the world-famous novelist and writer, once said the biggest "breakthrough" he had in getting his writings published was a note an editor sent back to him that said, "second draft = first draft - 10%" In other words, he needed to trim off at least 10% of the "fat" in his stories, and make them razor sharp. And you know what? This advice is even more relevant to copywriting, where there really is no room for any slop or extra words that slow down the sale. And here's a simple trick you can use, starting right away, that'll make absolutely sure you get your copy down to the absolute "core" information, with any lingering fat eliminated. Here's what you do: 1.) Get your copy down to what you think is the final draft. The draft you would mail out or hand in to a client. 2.) Instead of handing it in, do a "word count" on the copy (most word processing programs have this feature) and see how many words there are. 3.) Next, whip out your calculator and subtract that number of words by 10%. 4.) Then, simply get your copy down to whatever that number is. For example, if your ad is 5,000 words, you'd subtract 5,000 by 10% and get 4,500. And then just go through your copy again and again -- until you get it down to 4,500 words. This is one of the best ways you'll ever see to make your ads better and your response higher. Why? Because it forces you to use shorter words and say things in less space. In fact, almost every single time you do this, you'll see your "final draft" can actually be cut down even more, and that entire paragraphs can be re-worded and re-phrased in half the space, with more impact. All of which increases your readership...which increases your response...which then increases the amount of money you put in your pocket. http://ezinearticles.com/members/mem_pics/Ben-Settle_17645.jpg" border="0" alt="Ben Settle - EzineArticles Expert Author"> Ben Settle is an expert copywriter and direct marketer.
